Goucher College Students
Tell It Like It Is

With all the wonderfulness Goucher tourguides and campus brochures tell you about the school, College Prowler is here to tell you the lowdown on some things you may not have known about the school. Here is a list of things current students thought you should know before writing that tuition check:

  • There is no social scene.
  • Public transportation sucks.
  • It takes at least 30 minutes to get into Baltimore.
  • Athletics draw little attention or support from students.
  • Avoid early morning classes.
  • There is a lot of required reading.
  • Tuition and fees increase by at least $1,000 every year.

Still interested? We hope so because nearly 90 percent of each freshman class stays until graduation. Goucher is a school with a quality liberal arts education and students receive a lot of personl attention.

Just let the students do the talking for:

Academics:
“Every major has its groaners, but many of my classes made me think and discuss ideas with my friends.”

Always, always do I find the classes to be of interest. Granted, you have to be looking at an interesting subject in order to be captivated by it. Peace studies, history, philosophy, psychology, women’s studies, English, a variety of art classes—all of these I have found a great deal of value and fun in.”

Guys and Girls:
The average Goucher student likes music, is pretty healthy, smiles a lot, and likes to talk. Guys here are thoughtful and nice but also have a mischievous side that can yell a lot. It’s a place where the same dude strumming a guitar on the quad can be the one jumping on a bed screaming about Halo 2 later that night. People aren’t easy to pigeonhole here.”

“Most people are very open-minded and friendly. I don’t know if I’d call them hot by societal standards, but I have had no problem finding boys to date. There are certainly many girls to choose from because of the ratio.”

Nightlife:
Parties are more like social gatherings. No huge, raging parties, and not a lot of kegs on campus, but plenty of drinking and plenty of fun just the same.”

“Parties on campus are always on the down-low because security is strict about underage drinking and underage students being in the same room as alcohol, but you will still manage to find fun. Off campus, there are awesome clubs and bars in Baltimore, like Club One and Sonar, and they are always filled with Goucher people on the weekends.”
