Gonzaga University Students
Tell It Like It Is

Gonzaga has changed greatly over the last five years. There are new buildings, programs, and opportunities. Student enrollment has increased, and money is pouring into the school. Although debate about the proper nature of Gonzaga’s Catholic identity is still prevalent, the sense of constant political controversy has dwindled. It is an exciting time to be at Gonzaga, as each year brings significant changes and improvements. I am very eager to see how Gonzaga will be shaped in years to come—it promises to be far from stagnant.

College Prowler is here to let you in on that lowdown that goes way beyond what you would find in campus brochures or during University tours.

Hear what students are saying about:

Academics:
The professors are generally pretty eccentric. Sometimes cool and fun eccentric, sometimes snarky eccentric. They tend to assign a lot of actual work, but in my experience, the grading is fair.”

“The teachers are all over the map. Some are tough, and some are easy. Some give a damn, and some don’t. Some want to help you, and some have tenure and couldn’t care less. However, it is a good school with professors who, at the very least, will know your name.”

Guys and Girls:
“Gonzaga is definitely a hooking-up school as a result of the prevalence of partying and binge drinking. The typical Gonzaga student is probably upper-middle class, likes sports, takes an active role in politics, believes in God, takes studying seriously (to a point), and likes to party.”

“The typical Gonzaga student is a preppy trying desperately to avoid growing up while going through as much of his parents’ cash as is humanly possible.”

Nightlife:
“The parties on campus are pretty fun because you are likely to know a majority of those with whom you’ll be out. Once you turn 21, the three local bars (the Bulldog, Jack & Dan’s, and the Star) are where you will find a majority of your peers. Until then, the student house parties suffice for a good time. I personally do not enjoy clubs, but if you are in the mood for dancing, Spokane does have a few clubs that have been known to provide such an evening. The clubs around town are the Big Easy and Dempsey’s.”

“Parties on and off campus are fun and full of people, but they are usually not as crazy as something you would see portrayed on TV or at a huge state school. Local hotspots include the Bulldog and Jack & Dan’s, but there are also countless bars downtown.”
