Ball State University Students
Tell It Like It Is

Late night comedian David Letterman got his start in television at Ball State University, where he graduated with a degree in Telecommunications in 1969. While Ball State taught Letterman how to entertain audiences in front of a camera, the research university was first designed to educate teachers. It got its start in 1899 as a one-building institution known as the Eastern Indiana Normal School. The quality of teaching is an aspect students identify.

“If you are passionate about the subject matter, the teachers can be great resources, not only for class but also for outside activities and information.”

“The professors are very friendly and helpful. They always make time to talk to students.”

The students also recognize how to have fun on the weekends, even when there are restrictions.

“After the crackdown on underage drinking, a lot of us started going to smaller get-togethers. It is much safer, and you get better drinks.”

“There are all kinds of parties. If you want a party, it’s there.”

But do students find Muncie any Funcie?

“It’s a pretty good atmosphere here. It doesn’t seem to get enough attention from the students. There’s a lot of stuff that gets overlooked. It’s not a big city, but you do have some things to do.”

Visiting campus isn’t enough.
