SU has a laundry list of good qualities about it and very few flaws. The main thing to remember is that SU and its students refuse to be pigeonholed. There are so many varying interests at Syracuse University, as well as a broad array of extracurricular activities. People can’t even agree on what major is the most prestigious (although many claim communications or architecture). Still, although there is a broad range of people at SU, there usually is a consensus on one thing: people at Syracuse University really like it. Sure, there are different reasons, but almost everyone who spends a few years at SU enjoys it.
Some like the choices in classes, while others like the prominent sports teams on campus. Some like the appeal of a real college campus in the middle of a big city. No one comes for the weather. And besides the few reasons a student will specifically seek out Syracuse University, there are a broad number of factors that keep students here. The on-campus and off-campus housing is excellent, the computer facilities are top-notch, and the nightlife can be a major draw. Also, students generally have a lot of genuinely interesting events going on around campus. Whatever the reason, students who come to SU tend to stay here.

"I’m at the Newhouse School of Communications, so I’m glad with my choice. I know it’s a great school to get into. I want to be a director or producer some day."

"Let’s just say that I’ve had friends from home come to visit and they’ve decided it’s blown away their colleges. I’ve even had one of them transfer to Syracuse last year because he had such a good time visiting."

"SU is a great school. It’s in a city, but not a huge city. Syrcause can be ghetto, but SU is like its own community. If you wanted to, you could never leave the campus."

"For my major, Syracuse has one of the best schools in the nation. If it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t come here to be tortured by the winters that last from October to May or the roving bands of sorority girls."

"Syracuse is the greatest place in the world. There is no other place I’d rather be right now, and I’m hesitant to even think about leaving college. I absolutely love every single thing about this place, even the weather!"
