Tell It Like It Is

Thinking about going to Hampton?

Did you know?
  • Some professors at Hampton allow you to do your work online instead of coming to class.
  • Black Enterprise magazine lists HU as number three in leading colleges and universities for African American students.
  • Black Issues in Higher Education ranks HU in the top 10 for graduating African Americans with degrees in biology, business management, communications, English, journalism, and psychology.
  • Hampton University was founded in 1868, guided by the mottos, “Education for life” and “Learning by doing.”
  • Hampton University has a Virginia Beach campus.

The HU experience is definitely one-of-a-kind. At Hampton, you come in with the feeling that this is going to be the best experience of your life, when in actuality, it has become a lesson of choice and decisions, yet not a lesson to be regretted.

    Nightlife isn’t all that great.
“The nightlife around Hampton is awful. My freshman year, all I did was go to the Legion which was a Bingo hall for parties that had the same faces all the time. Once I turned 21, it got a little better, but it’s still not great.”

And the girl-to-guy ratio is not exactly even.
“The girls outnumber the guys here by a lot. The girls here go way too far to get all dressed up and put on all this makeup just to see the same guys each and every day. It’s not that serious.”

    But the education is top-notch.
“They were always telling me that HU is a very good school, and that my experience would be one to remember, and it was. The academics I have received are superb. I especially like the fact that the classes were small, so my teachers could focus on me.”

Find out if Hampton truly has something for you, straight from the students’ mouths. Visiting campus isn’t enough.
