George Washington University Students
Tell It Like It Is

When my parents first suggested that I look at colleges in Washington, DC, one image came to mind: gray-haired senators:
Kent Conrad (MBA ‘75) - U.S. Senator (North Dakota)
Michael Enzi (BBA ’66) - U.S. Senator (Wyoming)
Daniel Inouye (JD ‘52) - U.S. Senator (Hawaii)
Harry Reid (JD ‘64) - U.S. Senator (Nevada)

But the minute I stepped onto GW’s campus and saw thousands of students exploring their surroundings, I knew my preconceived notions about GW and Washington were totally false. (Julie Gordon, author)

But there are tons of things every student should know before coming to GWM:
  • Supposedly, if you ask Manouch, the most famous hot dog vendor near campus, for extra relish on your frank, he’ll give you drugs.
  • Stay for a summer at GW—you will have a lot of fun, plus there are great job opportunities available.
  • Unless there are severe weather conditions, GW students graduate on the Ellipse in front of the White House every year. Ending your four years at GW at this prestigious spot is beautiful and memorable.
  • When it’s a quiet, warm night, students love hanging out at the monuments. Whether with a date (it’s a really romantic spot) or a group of friends, nothing compares to staring at the reflecting pool from the top steps of the Lincoln Memorial at 2 a.m.
  • Get to know professors well—they often have connections in the “real world” and can help you out with jobs and recommendations.
Most students stay at GW for four years—GW’s retention rate is 92 percent. Make sure you don't become the student that wants to get away.

Find out if GW truly has something for you, straight from the students' mouths.
