Furman University Students
Tell It Like It Is
So what kinds of traditions will you be a part of if you decide to attend Furman?
- Chicken Finger Tuesday – The DH serves chicken fingers every Tuesday, and students anticipate this from Wednesday to Monday.
- Freshman Birthday Dunk – It’s a long-standing tradition that everyone gets thrown into the lake on their birthday at least once during their time at Furman.
- Key Shaking – Before each kick-off at the football games, students raise their keys in the air and shake them until the ball is kicked, then they yell “FU!” in unison.
With an acronym like FU, it’s not difficult to have school spirit. Students can’t wait for the cheerleaders to lead them in their favorite school cheer:
“FU one time! FU two times! . . .” Well, you get the idea.
There's so much more to a school than a brochure or a campus visit can tell you...see what the students have to say about Furman:
Greek Life – “There’s a strong Greek system with a small-school Southern twist. It’s not as stereotypical as other schools, though.”
Academic Life – “The teachers at Furman are generally helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable. The small classes are great because professors know their students’ individual scholastic abilities and their personalities.”
Campus Housing – “Compared to other schools, the dorms are large and nice. There are two areas, South Housing and Lakeside Housing, and the rooms are bigger in South usually. The smallest rooms are in Blackwell, so if you can avoid that, you should. But if you compare any room on campus to dorms at other schools, they will almost always be bigger.”
