DePauw University Students
Tell It Like It Is

All I was really looking for in my college search was “the click.” Nearly every campus I visited had a resident tour guide who would gather up his flock of visitors; tell the great attributes of University X; and then with wide, all-knowing eyes, he would drop the dreaded, “I stepped on campus and just felt a click.” I visited 48 schools in my search, always waiting for that elusive click. By number 37, I would have settled for a snap, maybe a muffled pop . . . anything.
Meredith Siemens, author of DePauw University: Off the Record

Moral of the story—maybe there isn’t ever a click just because you visit the campus. Maybe the "click" isn't quite that magical. What you're really waiting for is someone to give you the real deal on what life at the school you're looking at is like. You need more than just a tour.

Get the inside scoop on:
  • Tips to Succeed - Students suggest trying to complete group requirements early.
  • Traditions - At the first snowfall of every year, students run naked around the boulder, a giant rock once thought to be a petrified turtle, which is placed outside East College.
  • Dining - Ranch goes on everything in Indiana.
  • Housing - South Quad is all freshman housing and where most of the first-year fun goes down.
  • Dress Code - Most DePauw students’ wardrobes could easily fit in the windows of J.Crew, Banana Republic, Polo, Gap, or Abercrombie & Fitch.
  • The Slang – Riptide (concoction of beer, lemonade, and vodka found in most coolers), Wallies (Wabash men, also referred to as little giants or sheep lovers. They are DePauw’s biggest rival in football and love to come to DePauw to find women), Fishbowl (meeting area in the Hub that is surrounded in glass, making it a fish bowl).
