I don’t think there’s anything outstanding about the professors, but overall, I’ve been pleased—I’ve taken some really good classes. They are always willing to talk and give advice. Most listen very well and are open to your problems, suggestions, or even your future career anxieties.

There’s an old saying that goes, “You can make a big school small, but you can’t make a small school big.” The overall experience at Miami University of Ohio is different for every student, but most seem to have enjoyed their time here, and most will agree that the former part of this statement is representative of Miami. Miami is not a huge school, but it is large enough to feel like a big university without being overwhelming. It is essential to find a niche when you arrive, otherwise you may get lost in the shuffle. One of the best ways to determine if you will like Miami is to take into consideration what is important to you in a school and to really weigh your options. Visit the campus and ask questions. We are talking about the next four or five years of your life, here. If Miami does not fulfill an important need you have, it probably isn’t the school for you, and there are people here who feel like they don’t belong.
Nobody enjoys school 100 percent of the time, but the students at Miami have a plethora of options, both social and academic, at their doorsteps. At Miami, you cannot be afraid to try new things, talk to new people, or grow as an individual. This is true no matter where you decide to attend college. Overall, the most important fact to take away from this guidebook is that most students feel that they made the right decision in attending Miami.

"I like being at Miami. I am having an enjoyable experience living out on my own, and I feel that I made the right choice when I selected a school."

"I am glad I came here for the school’s reputation and education. Out of all of the schools in Ohio, it is the best choice. But it is in the middle of nowhere. I just wish there were a little bit more to the town. And a lot less conservatism."

"Miami is amazing for its academic reputation. But just like every college, some people love it, and some people hate it. I happen to be the sixth person in my family to attend Miami. So we obviously like it enough to keep coming back."

"It’s so much fun. All my friends here are great and classes aren’t too bad. It’s more work than I’m used to, but that’s a given. I really am happy that I decided to attend Miami instead of the other schools I was considering."

"I wouldn’t send my worst enemy to Miami. It’s a great school academically. Socially, it is a cookie cutter factory. The weather is drab and bland—some sun, but mostly gray skies. Oxford is a cow town in the middle of nowhere. There is nothing to do on the weekends. I knew a girl from Beverly Hills who came here and struggled with it. It’s a big cultural difference for people from big cities."
