The teachers are pretty cool. Most of my classes so far have been really fun, and I’ve really enjoyed participating in them. Most of the professors are very strict about deadlines for assignments, but some others are a little more flexible if you have a good enough reason for not being able to make a deadline. In general, professors are willing to work with you to get your work in and graded so you can get credit for it.

Overall Experience
Howard -
Washington, DC
Students are more than satisfied with the quality of education that they are receiving at Howard. Students seem to have no trouble meshing with their peers, as well as the faculty. In fact, the only qualm that students seem to have is experiencing the difficulties of dealing with HU administration. The bureaucracy and red tape involved with getting anything done at the administrative level is nothing short of nerve racking, and the race to ensure that your financial aid is administered on time and paperwork properly entered into the system is probably more effective for rapid weight loss than any weight loss program currently being advertised. But even with all the little frustrations that come with dealing with the administration, there is a firm consensus among the students that there is no better place for them to be than where they are now. From the quality of the relationships they have formed to the quality of the education that they are receiving, as well as the numerous opportunities made available to them, HU students are pretty darn happy. Overall, Howard provides the ideal atmosphere for anyone who’s interested in politics or pursuing a career that’s in any way relevant to the process of developing public policy.
Howard is often referred to as the mecca, or the center of every Historically Black College or University in the nation, and the unified pride that the students have in its history and what it represents is very real and very substantial. While there’s no denying that there is room for improvement on many levels, the important thing is that Howard University is expanding on the good and improving on the not-so-good—constantly striving to become better with each passing year. More importantly, most students feel like they can be a valuable, contributing part of this process.

"What can I say? This is Howard. This is the mecca. Being here is more than just being at a university and getting an education, it’s about living as part of this large family whose members care about you and look out for you."

"I’ve only been here a semester, and I already feel like I couldn’t bear to leave. I love the diversity, the history and legacy of Howard, the Howard spirit, and practically everything that has the Howard stamp on it. Howard is such a cool place to be, and I’m so excited and happy to be here."

"This is it for me. Howard is da bomb, it’s my home, my support group, my church, everything. I couldn’t be happier at another school."

 |
"There’s nothing like being able to get a good education while forming lasting relationships with such warm and interesting people. It’s like being part of a family, especially with some of the professors that I’ve had who became friends and surrogate parents in addition to being my professors."
|
 |
"It’s been a great experience so far, the administration could be better, but I wouldn’t wish to be anywhere else, that’s for sure."
