The teachers are very outgoing and know exactly what they are teaching. The best part is that all the teachers love what they teach, and therefore, the classes are more interesting. There is genuine excitement about education at Hollins.

Hollins students love their school. Many become very sentimental and enthusiastic in expressing this. If you are looking for a school that can evoke that kind of feeling, Hollins might very well be what you’re looking for. Some fear that Hollins might not fare well as single-sex institutions lose popularity. This inspires many students to sing the praises of Hollins so that more women will give the University a chance. Due in large part to its devoted alumnae recruiting system, Hollins remains poised to succeed in the future. Students also express the need to reach more minority students, as the student body is overwhelmingly white.
When it comes to stimulating classes, caring professors, interesting students, and beautiful surroundings, Hollins has it made. Students have a lot of say in what and how much they want to put into their educations. If flexibility and individuality are important to you, you’ll appreciate the academic environment. If you crave academic structure, Hollins might not provide you with what you are looking for. Hollins can be a party school when it wants to be, but the focus quickly shifts back to academics on Monday morning. However, the party atmosphere is unlike what you would find at most other universities. If you are looking to mingle with a lot of guys, you certainly won’t find that here. Likewise, if you are looking for a college town with bustling student nightlife, you won’t find that either. When it comes to the social scene, expect the unexpected.

"It’s funny: Hollins attracts a lot of weirdos and a lot of clean-cut kids. We end up with a unique balance in our social atmosphere. If you’re up for a change, come to Hollins. Just don’t expect the expected."

"If you have a definite idea of what you want in a career, and you can get into a top program, I would suggest that you take advantage of that opportunity. We have a lot of top-of-the-line programs ourselves, but some are better than others. For example, don’t come here if you want to be a sports medicine trainer, that’s not really our schtick. If you have ever felt like a lost soul when it comes to direction, Hollins is the place for you! You’ll get to take classes in all sorts of interesting fields. You’re bound to find something that sparks your interest."

"I love Hollins, and I wish I could stay forever. I am so happy and know that this is where I belong."

"Hollins is welcoming and warm. I feel at home here. I would not trade it for anything. The campus is beautiful, and the people are as friendly as they get. There is hardly any competition among students. We all want each other to do well. I have heard stories about how some students at other institutions will tear out important pages in library books to sabotage other students and to give themselves an advantage. That is the complete opposite of the attitude here."

"When I first started at Hollins, it was a last-minute decision, and I was unsure of how things would turn out. However, I am really pleased with my experience here and I feel that I made the right decision. A women’s college is an empowering place to be. It is not isolated from men, like many girls might think. In fact, there are more guys around than you might want. However, the freedom to speak out and the ability to use the classroom contexts to address issues that are about women or are important to women is something that you won’t find as easily in a coed environment. This is priceless, and this is what makes Hollins special."
