Iowa State University Students Tell It Like It Is
Did you know that the overall acceptance rate for Iowa State is 90%? So go ahead and apply ? and then buy the College Prowler guide to get yourself acquainted with the school before you even step foot on campus.
Once you start at Iowa State, be prepared for some competition. Iowa State University consistently ranks in the top 11% of the private and public institutions enrolling National Merit Scholars.
Students coming from densely populated areas, such as Chicago, may find Ames to be a boring small town. But our guide can give you tips on where to go for a fun night out (Mo-Jazz or Paddy's) or on the best dorms to live in on campus (Maple or UDA).
And if something's on your chest and you need to get it off, go to the Free Speech Zone ? a place on campus designated for students to freely speak their minds on whatever issues they feel are important. It is located right out in front of the Hub and Parks.
Don't forget to Campanile! Campaniling is an ISU tradition. A student is not an official Iowa Stater until he or she is kissed under the Campanile (the bell tower on campus) at midnight. (If your Campanile partner was a real looker, you might want to ask him/her to walk around Lake LaVerne 3 times.)
What will your Campaniling partner most likely look like?
'Well, remember that ISU is primarily an agricultural school. We have a lot of farm boys. You know, Wranglers, belt buckles, the works. It depends on where you go (Boheme and Beaudelaire always have some pretty foreign boys). The boys seem to me very clean-cut and all-American. The girls are the same. They start to look similar. Ames is a very conservative place, so you really won't see much spiked hair or odd piercing or stuff like that. You've got to hit Iowa City to see that stuff.'
But remember that Ashton Kutcher is Iowa-born.
And for those looking for a female companion:
'Even if this campus is only 40 percent female, it's the hot 40 percent.'
Find out if Iowa State has something for you, straight from the students' mouths. Visiting campus isn't enough.

The College Prowler Process
While writing our series of college guides, we felt it was critical that our content was unbiased and unaffiliated with any college or university. By hiring current students as authors, we strive to create college guides that truly represent each campus. Our guides cover both the good and the bad, and whether survey responses point to recurring trends or varying opinions, these sentiments are directly and proportionally expressed through our guides.
From the very beginning, student writers gather the most up-to-date stats, facts, and inside information on their colleges. They fill each section with student quotes and summarize the findings in editorial reviews. In addition, each school receives a collection of letter grades (A through F) that reflect student opinion. Once a guide is written, additional college students serve as editors and check for accuracy even more extensively. This same process is applied to all of the 258 colleges and universities College Prowler currently covers. Each guide is the result of endless student contributions, hundreds of pages of research and writing, and countless hours of hard work. All of this has led to the creation of a student information network that stretches across the nation. It’s no easy accomplishment, but it’s the reason that our guides are such a great resource.
