Howard University Students Tell It Like It Is

Howard University is a school with deep roots in African American culture and civil rights history. So, in terms of its cultural and historical contributions to the history of the United States, it's a fairly well-known and respected institution. Historical significance alone, however, is hardly a good enough reason to pick a school. There's so much more to HU than any number of books could ever hope to cover. In order to know what the University is all about, you have to experience it for yourself in all its radiance, but this book is a start in helping you decide if you want to take the first step in the journey that is Howard University.

Find out what students are saying about:

Diversity:
'We may not look very diverse, but if you take a walk on the Yard and listen to all the different accents and regional inflections, you can see that everybody comes from all sorts of different backgrounds.'

'The campus is very diverse. Even though almost everyone looks black, there are so many people from Africa, the West Indies, all over the African Diaspora, and the rest of the world. There didn't used to be a lot of Asians, but now there are enough of them on campus for them to form an association, which tells me that they are growing in number.'

Guys and Girls:
'The girls and guys on campus are very nice and very cool. It's a cool campus, even though nobody looks down on anybody else or anything like that. You just do your own thing and people accept you for who you are, except if you are a snob, and then people will just ignore you.'

'The guys on campus are very attractive, focused, and Christian. The females are motivated, stylish, beautiful (inside and out), and down-to-earth. The downside is that women outnumber men tremendously.'

Nightlife:
'There aren't that many parties held on campus, but off campus is another story altogether. If you're a night owl like me, DC's nightlife is a dream come true, and there are a lot of places open really late so you can have an amazing time on Friday or Saturday night.'

'What makes the nightlife in DC great is the people. Just about any guy can walk into a trendy club and approach a hot girl and?get this?they'll actually talk to you!'

The College Prowler Process

While writing our series of college guides, we felt it was critical that our content was unbiased and unaffiliated with any college or university. By hiring current students as authors, we strive to create college guides that truly represent each campus. Our guides cover both the good and the bad, and whether survey responses point to recurring trends or varying opinions, these sentiments are directly and proportionally expressed through our guides.

From the very beginning, student writers gather the most up-to-date stats, facts, and inside information on their colleges. They fill each section with student quotes and summarize the findings in editorial reviews. In addition, each school receives a collection of letter grades (A through F) that reflect student opinion. Once a guide is written, additional college students serve as editors and check for accuracy even more extensively. This same process is applied to all of the 258 colleges and universities College Prowler currently covers. Each guide is the result of endless student contributions, hundreds of pages of research and writing, and countless hours of hard work. All of this has led to the creation of a student information network that stretches across the nation. It’s no easy accomplishment, but it’s the reason that our guides are such a great resource.
